US Research Class

The last class I had on US Research from the Mesa Regional Family History Center was about Immigration. This was so interesting. The object is to help one understand the different phases the US has gone through and what has to be considered to locate information on one's family. For example I know why our Lipps family came from Germany to the United States - mainly his stepmother was mean to him and would not feed him - but after he got here (New York) why did he go to Louisiana and then on to Texas? He didn't receive any land as compensation from the government. Why didn't his uncle Niemeyer whom he located in New York go to Texas with him. His uncle went to Nevada.

The attached movie explains the progression from Plymouth to the expansion of the West and the annexation of each state or territory. To me it is so interesting so I thought I would share it with you. Click on the following link. Growth of a Nation

Growth of a Nation is a free, ten minute movie which depicts the geographic history of the United States from 1789. The timeline is interactive.
