Second Civil War Bride Block Finished

I finished the second block for the Civil War Bride Quilt. There sure are a lot of leave in this block but I think I've almost mastered the points on the leaves. I really need to find more green civil war fabric. This quilt has a lot of green. The white flowers should have been back so the seams wouldn't show but it is not too bad.
I'm ready to start the third block which is the bride. I don't know what happened to the groom. He must have been off fighting.

Civil War Bride

I decided to work on an applique quilt and since the 150th celebration of the Civil War is coming, I thought I'll make a quilt with 1800 fabric. Now this will take some time. I found a site Civil War Bride and was so impressed with the blocks. I had started collecting a few 1800 fabric to begin with and just added so more fabric. I see now that this is definitly not enough and will have to start collecting more.

Here is my little collection of Civil War fabric-fat quarters and 5" squares.

See the little pink box in the back of the picture. I made several of these for my visiting teachers. It was so much fun to embroider although it took more than 4 hours of embroidering each one. But they make a nice place to put that extra special piece of jewelery in.

The first block is done. I can see that I need a lot more green fabric. This makes for good TV hand work in the evening. I almost have block two finished and will show it soon.

Happy New Year

The New Year is here. Happy New Year to you!
All the celebrations and partying is over. In a way I'm glad. It's always nice to have the Christmas decoration up to enjoy and hear the beautiful Christmas music and most of all to remember and ponder the birth of our Savior.
But now it is time for a new beginning, a new year. Did you make new year resolutions? I made a few but have already broke them. One was to get to bed early each night but I am a night owl and enjoy staying up to sew or work on the computer or watch a movie. My plan was---TV off at 9:00, 9:00 to 9:30 to get last minute emails and tidy up things, 9:30 to 10:00 get ready for bed, 10:00 to 10:30 read scriptures, etc. and 10:30 lights out. But I've gotten to bed later than that. It is so hard. Jerry just doesn't understand me. But if I got up at 4:00 a.m each day to go to work, I'll be in bed early too. But I'm retired and this is one of the joys of retirement.
